About me

Hi, I'm Sara

I'm an qualified psychologist in Italy, living and working in Brisbane, Australia. I chose to move abroad — and I know what it means to build a life from scratch somewhere new.

My background

My name is Sara, and I have been passionate about psychology since adolescence. As a child, I was a keen observer: I enjoyed watching people and noticing their behaviours.

Over time, what began as a natural curiosity developed into a true vocation. I have a deep passion for what I do and for my profession. I strongly believe in the importance of listening, empathy, and respect for each person’s unique story. My goal is to offer a safe space where individuals can freely express themselves, explore who they are, and begin a journey of personal growth and self-awareness.

To support this path, I completed both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree, undertook a traineeship in an addiction treatment centre, and passed the professional licensing exam in Italy.

I later decided to move to Australia in search of a new life experience and to broaden my personal and professional horizons. During my time here, I came to understand how intense it can be to leave behind one’s routine, city, family, friends, and so much more. I have personally experienced the challenges that such a journey can bring, and for this reason, through my skills and training, I would like to support those who—like me—have gone through strong emotions, felt lost at times, and are now looking to find themselves again.

Sunlit Roots was born from that direct experience — not just from theoretical training.

Why Sunlit Roots

The name says it all. Roots in the sunlight: not roots that hold you in place, but roots that nourish you as you grow in a new direction. I chose this name because I believe emigration doesn’t mean having to choose between who you were and who you’re becoming. You can be deeply Italian and deeply Australian. You can carry your history with you while building a new one.

Sunlit Roots was founded with a clear purpose: to give Italians abroad the kind of professional support they rarely find — in Italian, without having to explain every cultural reference from scratch, without feeling alone in a journey that the people around you often struggle to fully understand.

My approach

I work with an integrative approach, focused on strengths and grounded in scientific evidence. I place your experience and each person’s unique story at the center.

My clinical training allows me to recognize nuances—the underlying psychological dynamics of migration-related difficulties, identity challenges, and the weight of expectations shaped by different cultures. However, my service in Australia is mentoring, not psychotherapy. I am not a psychologist registered with AHPRA.
